Hi, I’m Jamie Philippi, personal trainer and founder of Premier Fitness Solutions in Algonquin, IL.   Before branching out and opening my own Fitness Studio, for over a decade I worked for several Large National Health clubs and weight loss clinics where I discovered everything that goes on behind the scenes. There were several things that I thought could be better and a few things that were downright wrong.

Yes, It is true that some people do benefit when they join one of these Chicagoland Weight Loss clinics or “health clubs” but the truth is that the majority of the people never see results and drop off within the first couple of weeks.

Below I have listed the top 3 things to be very cautious of in your search for a weight loss clinic or program.  If you see any of these while searching for a quality weight loss program, run for the hills.

They Claim You Can Eat Whatever You Want and You Don’t Have to Exercise to Lose the Weight.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but to lose weight and change the shape of your body you have to make some modifications to your eating habits and you need to challenge your muscles through exercise.

There have been many great advances in Medical Science but inventing a “Pill” that allows you to eat whatever you want and never exercise is not one of them.  Any claims of a “magic pill” are all hype and will only lead to disappointment and a lighter wallet.

They claim there is some “secret”  keeping you from Weight Loss

It usually goes something like this:  “It’s not your fault that you are overweight, It’s because you have (too much or too little) of this hormone or that hormone, or this is out-of- whack or that is out of balance.  And they have the program and/or supplement that can totally correct the problem and you will magically start to lose weight.

Yes, it’s true that there can be some hormone imbalances that cause people to struggle with losing weight (like the thyroid) but this is usually the exception and is not the problem with the majority of people.

The truth is you gain weight when you take in more calories than you expend or burn.  You lose weight when you make healthy eating choices and are on the right type of exercise program at least 3days per week.

They Claim You Can Spot Reduce or Lose Weight From Certain
areas Of Your Body

Let’s get this out in the open.  You cannot target certain areas and fat will magically disappear from your stomach, thighs, or butt. There is no way to lose weight in one single area of your body.  Fat will come off from all over.  A good rule of thumb is the first place you put on fat it will usually be the last place for it to come off.

Please stop wasting money on all these supplements and ab machines that claim you can get rid of belly fat without proper nutrition and exercise by simply taking this pill or using their new secret abdominal contraption.
Okay, I know this article was titled the 3 Dirty little Secrets but I figured I would throw in a fourth one and one of the main reasons I started my own fitness studio.

They Sign You Up for A long Term Program and Count on You
Dropping off In a Few Weeks.

A lot of Algonquin and Chicagoland  weight loss centers and Health clubs sign you up for long term contracts and send you off to start your training program with little guidance. They count on the fact that you have no idea what exercises are right for you and your goals.  You will quit coming and they can sign up more people without becoming overcrowded.

 Even worse, those that stick to it many times develop injuries from improper form, not only are they not making any progress and getting frustrated, they actually end up hurting themselves.

These are a few of the reasons I started Premier Fitness Solutions and Founded Targeted Total Body Training.  I wanted to help people that are tired of struggling with losing weight, tired of all the misinformation and fads out there.  I want to see people actually accomplish their health and fitness goals.  I took the best of everything I have learned over the last 13years in the Health and Fitness Industry and put together the most effective weight loss and toning program in the industry.

I do have to tell you, we do not take just anyone. Only those who are motivated, who will accept nothing but the best, and who will put all their energy into achieving their new energized body.



I use to be so intimated going to the gym and I had a hard time staying consistent. When I did, I usually just got on one of the bikes in the corner and read a book. Throughout my life, I had longed to have the body that my friends had. I wanted to be thin, but I didn't do anything about it. Instead, I was depressed because I was overweight, which lead me to food as my comfort and only perpetuated my problem.

One day I woke up and thought today is going to be different. It turns out that it wasn't just one day. I made a complete lifestyle change. I decided to get the help of a personal trainer. Before, I had been completely sedentary. I dreaded exercise and slept all the time. At first, I had no exercise tolerance, but after a month I felt so much better.
