"Barrington Personal Trainer Reveals Secrets To Lasting Weight Loss "

Did you know that most Gyms, Health Clubs and Weight Loss Clinics in Barrington, Il and the Northwest Suburbs profit from clients seeking help, but don’t have any idea of what they need to do or what they are really getting into…

Hi, I’m Jamie Philippi, personal trainer and founder of Premier Fitness Solutions in Algonquin, IL. Today I want to give you some simple tips to uncover how to ignite your slow metabolism for maximum fat and weight loss.

Often times as a Barrington fitness and weight loss expert I get asked the question, how important is eating right if I workout hard, or if I eat right do I really need to workout?  I’ve also heard many so called Barrington weight loss experts say things like, “Nutrition is 80% of the battle.”  Well, it is true nutrition is an important part of getting the body you deserve but it’s only part of the equation.  Exercise is the other part and both are equally important.  If someone were to come up to you and ask, “what’s more important to life, the heart or lungs?”  You might look at them kind of strange and think they are crazy, as both are critical to life.

It’s the same thing with fitness and weight loss.  You can’t just exercise, or only eat right and expect to be in optimal health, weight, body comp or feel your best.  Just as you can’t live without the heart and lungs, you can’t live in optimal health and energy without exercise and nutrition.

With that said, let’s look at the key components of a healthy nutrition and weight loss plan as there is so much misinformation out there.

The first one is eat every two to four hours.  When you go long periods without food your metabolism slows way down and makes it very challenging to lose weight.  Conversely, when you eat small frequent meals it speeds up your metabolism and also sends a signal to your body that it’s okay to let go of stored body fat as you are constantly receiving an influx of quality nutrients via frequent small meals throughout the day.

So if eating every two to four hours is critical to weight loss, what do we put on our plate?  The first thing should always be a protein source.  Protein is critical for increasing the metabolism.  The key with protein consumption is make sure it is a lean source (chicken, turkey, cottage cheese, egg whites, extra lean beef, etc.) and ensure you are getting it with every meal throughout the day instead of too much at one time.

So how much protein should you consume?  Here is a simple rule. For women it’s a portion the size of their palm every time they eat (every 2-4hours).  For men, it’s two palms worth of protein every two to four hours.

Next, we all know the importance of fruits and vegetables, but did you know that 98% of us don’t get anywhere close to the recommended amount for optimal health.

Here’s what you do.  Have a fruit or a vegetable every time you eat, they can be raw, cooked, steamed or in a salad.  It doesn’t really matter just make a conscious effort to have them with every meal.

Okay, let’s move on to good fats.  Yes, fats are important for optimal health and weight loss.  I have found that many Barrington, IL residents tend to avoid fats on their weight loss plan. This is a big mistake.  Fats are critical to optimal health and success when losing weight.

Good fats are things like mixed nuts (walnuts, pecans and almonds), olive oil, flax seed oil, avocados, and fish oil, basically fats that are low in saturated fat and provide a whole host of healthy benefits.  Every day you should include them in your diet.  One word of caution, although these fats have tons of health benefits, it can be very easy to over consume them.  For instance, pecans are a wonderful source of fat, however a serving of pecans is only about 8-10 pecan halves. I know it can be easy to consume five times that amount if you have a bowl of nuts sitting in front of you.   The key is to take a serving and put the rest away.

So we talked about the importance of protein and fat, that brings us to carbohydrates.  There are lots of misconceptions about carbs and as a Barrington personal trainer, I’ve seen it all. No-carb, low-carb, high carb and everything in between.

What should you do?
The simplest way to put it is you have got to earn your carbs.  This is a very powerful body composition and weight loss strategy.  The premise is that you should save your high carbohydrate meals for fist thing in the morning so you have all day to burn them off and/or after you have exercised.  So to put it simply, if you haven’t exercised, put down the bread, rice, potatoes and such.  If you have exercised eat your carbs within one hour of exercise and choose a quality unprocessed carbohydrate.
Here are a few questions you can ask yourself that have worked wonders for many Barrington residents on a weight loss plan…

  • Has it been two to four hours since my last meal?  If it has, you need to eat again.
  • Does this meal have a vegetable in it?  If not, add one.
  • Do I have good fat in this meal?  If not, you are missing something.
  • Lastly, did I just workout?  If not, no starchy carbohydrate.  If yes, you can include a higher carbohydrate food.

Below are Some of the Results Our Clients Have Gotten Following these simple steps and following our Targeted Total Body Training Program

I use to be so intimated going to the gym and I had a hard time staying consistent. When I did, I usually just got on one of the bikes in the corner and read a book. I did this routine for several months and began to get very frustrated with my lack of progress. That's when I decided to get some help and work with a fitness trainer.

In 3 months of working with my personal trainer I have learned more than I expected and have seen fantastic results. My body Fat has gone from 28% to 14%, my strength has improved dramatically and my workouts are always fun, challenging and motivating.

I am no longer intimidated when I walk into any gym and I look forward to each and every workout.

Throughout my life, I had longed to have the body that my friends had. I wanted to be thin, but I didn't do anything about it. Instead, I was depressed because I was overweight, which lead me to food as my comfort and only perpetuated my problem.

One day I woke up and thought today is going to be different. It turns out that it wasn't just one day. I made a complete lifestyle change. I decided to get the help of a personal trainer. Before, I had been completely sedentary. I dreaded exercise and slept all the time. At first, I had no exercise tolerance, but after a month I felt so much better. I could breathe easier, move easier and I felt like I had so much energy. It came to a point where I became addicted to exercise instead of food.

Within Six months of deciding "today is going to be different" I lost 69lbs. At my heaviest, I wore a size 24, and now I wear a 10. I do not even remember the person that I used to be. She seems like a stranger.

Thanks for helping me change my life.
